On Saturday 5th May (2018) Chorley Youth Zone, self-labelled ‘Inspire’ by the borough’s young people, officially opened to the public with a carnival themed event.

As a purpose-built £4.8million facility, ‘Inspire’ will provide a safe environment where young people between the ages of 8 and 19 (and up to 25 for those with disabilities), can come and enjoy themselves while hopefully raising their aspirations and confidence to create a happier and healthier generation.

The infrastructure of facilities is based upon ‘Youth Zones 21st Century Youth Facility Model’ and all young people will have access to the fantastic amenities, including an impressive indoor climbing wall, dance studio and sports hall for a cost of £5 per annual membership and only 50p per visit.

One of these facilities features a brand new and state-of-the-art synthetic turf pitch (3G kick pitch), courtesy of Leigh Spinners and SEL Sports which features our very own DLG® grass yarn – DLG®Endurance.

DLG®Endurance is a monofilament yarn designed specifically for heavy duty sports surfaces such as five-a-side football etc. making it the ideal solution for the Inspire Youth Zone.

“This is one of many bespoke, and unusual, projects that we’ve been involved with at SEL Sports; however, this is the first project where we have had the opportunity to work with Don & Low and their high-performance DLG® grass yarns. The quality, performance and colour of DLG®Endurance is outstanding – it really made the 3G kick pitch at ‘Inspire’ POP.” – Chris Stephenson, SEL Sports.

In fact, the distinct monofilament shape provides a strong and durable yarn with increased resilience, which ensures that the Inspire sports surface can withstand the fast pace and sometimes rough play from its members.

“This is an incredibly exciting project for Don & Low and it is, in fact, one of the first projects of its kind since launching DLG®. We fully expect that our DLG®Endurance grass yarns will enhance the surface life expectancy of the ‘Inspire’ 3G kick pitch, supporting the youth zone mission to inspire young people to lead heathier, happier lives” – The DLG® Team, Don & Low Ltd.

It took just over seven days to install the synthetic turf pitch, complete with marker lines; as well as sand and rubber infill materials. This is the second Youth Zone project to be completed by SEL Sports following on from a successful synthetic turf installation at Wirral Youth Zone in 2017; however, this is the first project of its kind for the DLG® grass yarns and we’re extremely privileged that Leigh Spinners and SEL Sports chose DLG®Endurance for this incredible development.

We can’t wait to see and hear about the 3G kick pitch in use from all the Inspire members throughout 2018!
